What is God teaching me about delighting in Him?

delight | verb

  1. please greatly
  2. take great pleasure

The Lord has been teaching me that we are on a 2-way street, as all relationships go about. Because He delights in me, His great desire for me is to respond in delight in Him. ”For the Lord your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.” Zephaniah‬ ‭3‬:‭17‬

God wants to please me greatly because He cares about me. Psalms 37:4 says that He cares about the desires of my heart. Psalms 63:5 says that He will satisfy my soul completely. He takes my wishes & desires into consideration throughout His plan for my life because He cares about the things I also care about. He takes everything into consideration, He doesn’t grant my wishes like a genie in a bottle but He shows His love for me in the way of making the ultimate choice for the goodness of His will in my life. He takes great pleasure in me. He created me. Jeremiah 1:5 says that He chose me before the beginning of time. I was always a thought in His mind. Like a father is intended to love his creation, He loves me. He loves with no limits & He loves not based on the works I can do for Him but simply for who I am with or without Him.

In the same way, God’s desire is for me to respond with delight in Him. What brings Him joy is when I choose Him over the world. Recently, this has looked like replacing labels & identities the enemy has used to speak over me as the following:

  • Impure & undeserving of true love from anyone TO made clean in Jesus

”The words I have spoken over you have already cleansed you.“ John‬ ‭15‬:‭3

  • Too far in the deep end for intimacy with God TO chosen & sought out by God

”I took you from the ends of the earth, from its farthest corners I called you. I said, ‘You are my servant’; I have chosen you and have not rejected you.“ Isaiah‬ ‭41‬:‭9

  • An unequipped & biblical knowledge lacking leader TO a holy spirit filled & driven leader

”After this prayer, the meeting place shook, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. Then they preached the word of God with boldness.“ ‭‭Acts ‭4‬:‭31‬

  • Far behind in life compared to the people around me TO exactly where God has planned me to be all along

”You can make many plans, but the Lord’s purpose will prevail.“ ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭19‬:‭21

  • Not a good, intentional or loving family member & friend TO full of love for the people around me & seeking to love other’s in the way they receive best

”And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.” Colossians‬ ‭3‬:‭14

  • God revealing Himself to me is based on my good works for Him TO believing that God loves & cares about me so much to never stop captivating me

”You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.“ ‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭29‬:‭13‬

I can please God greatly by seeking to understand & see myself through His eyes. Along the same lines, I’ve been learning to see the world in a way separate from my fleshly view & seeking ways to bring honor & respect to God through following His commandments & being led by the holy spirit rather than my own desires. Keeping the Sabbath holy, simply sitting in the presence of God, understanding His goodness & holiness, thanking Him for every little thing, saying “yes” to the ways He asks to use me, testifying to His faithfulness & seeing Him as the only true satisfaction in life are just a few ways that I take great pleasure in Him.

Delighting in God is not religion. Delighting in God is not obligation. Delighting in God does not feel forceful.

Delighting in God is being content & spiritually fed in His presence. Delighting in God is sitting at the feet our Father & understanding His majesty. Delighting in God is being who He created me to be.

Love always,

P

I love how you talk about delighting in God! He created us for his own pleasure (just like couples have kids so they can enjoy having a relationship with them) and He loves it when we praise Him, express gratitude for what an amazing God He is and spend time with him. Such a great blog!! Thank you!
